In 1952 Hammerli introduced its first rapid-fire pistol in caliber .22 short. The firm started a subsidiary company in Waldshut-Tiengen in Germany in 1956. In 1971 the Swiss SIG concern bought a majority interest in the Hammerli firm. SIG is an abbreviation for the Schweizer Industrie Gesellschaft.
Hammerli has a wide range of pistols, including both single-shot freepistols and automatics in 22 lr caliber rimfire. Both sorts have been widely used by top compettion shooters
Hammerli 150 introduced in 1980 and the 152 in free pistol
Hammerli 160 introduced in 1992 single shot free pistol or the 162 with electroni trigger.
Hammerli 208 and 208 S in 1966 with the difference that the 208S sporting pistol comes with a square trigger house, the trigger can be slide forward for longer fingers or backward for shorter fingers
